The Coal Authority Internship is a UK public body that manages the legacy of coal mining in Great Britain. Position Purpose
The Summer Internship Program for 2024 offers a unique opportunity for students and graduates to gain hands-on experience in research, analysis, and environmental stewardship. As an intern, you will be part of a dynamic team that contributes to ongoing research projects focused on coal mining legacy issues and sustainable development solutions.
This internship is designed to help you develop your research skills, gain insight into the workings of a public body, and make meaningful contributions to critical projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct research on topics related to coal mining impacts, mine water treatment, land remediation, and renewable energy solutions.
- Assist with data collection, analysis, and interpretation of research findings.
- Collaborate with team members to develop innovative solutions for environmental challenges.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and other documentation to support project deliverables.
- Participate in site visits to observe real-world applications of the research.
- Contribute to the Coal Authority’s knowledge base by sharing research insights and updates with colleagues.
Education
- Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program (e.g., Environmental Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Renewable Energy, or related fields) or recent graduate.
- Strong academic record in relevant coursework.
Experience
- Prior research experience, whether through academic coursework or extracurricular projects, is desirable but not required.
- Understanding of environmental issues, energy systems, or geology is a plus.
Skills
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with data analysis tools and environmental modeling software is advantageous but not required.
