Position Purpose
The 2024 Internship Trainee Program aims to provide motivated individuals with hands-on experience in various departments of The City of Edinburgh Council. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that support the city’s growth, improve community services, and contribute to the Council’s vision for a better Edinburgh.
This internship offers a pathway for students and recent graduates to gain practical experience, develop their professional skills, and learn about the workings of local government.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the delivery of public services across various Council departments, including education, housing, city planning, transportation, and more.
- Support project management efforts, helping with research, planning, and the implementation of initiatives.
- Participate in policy analysis, reviewing local government policies, and assessing their impact on the community.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and documentation to inform decision-making.
- Engage with Edinburgh residents and stakeholders, responding to queries and offering support as needed.
- Attend meetings, workshops, and training sessions to expand your knowledge and network with Council staff.
Education
- Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program (e.g., Public Administration, Social Sciences, Urban Planning, Environmental Studies, Business, or related fields) or a recent graduate.
- Strong academic performance in relevant subjects.
Experience
- Previous internship, volunteer, or work experience in a public service or administrative setting is desirable but not required.
- Knowledge of local government operations, urban planning, or community development is a plus.
Skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with diverse communities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
