Position Purpose:
South Lanarkshire Council Internship is offering a unique Apprenticeship Program as part of its 2024 Vacancies. This program provides an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals to gain hands-on experience and develop skills while working in local government. Apprentices will work across various departments, gaining practical knowledge of public service operations while earning qualifications that support their future career goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the daily administrative and operational functions of assigned council departments, such as customer services, education, social care, housing, or environmental services.
- Provide support in handling inquiries from the public, resolving issues, and delivering council services efficiently.
- Learn to use council systems and software to process information, update records, and generate reports.
- Shadow senior staff to gain insights into project management, policy development, and decision-making processes.
- Participate in training sessions on council procedures, local government regulations, and relevant industry standards.
- Collaborate with colleagues and support department initiatives to improve service delivery and community engagement.
- Assist in organizing community events or council meetings, helping ensure all logistics and documentation are managed effectively.
- Follow health and safety protocols and ensure compliance with all council regulations.
Education:
- Minimum of National 4 or 5 qualifications (or equivalent), ideally in subjects such as English and Maths.
- A strong interest in public service, administration, or local government is essential.
- Any additional qualifications related to business, administration, or social services are advantageous but not required.
Experience:
- No prior work experience is required, though any experience in customer service, administration, or community engagement will be beneficial.
- Previous experience working in teams or volunteering in community projects is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage with the public and colleagues professionally.
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work well within a team and independently when required.
- Basic IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office or similar software.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail when handling tasks and responsibilities.
- Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to work.
