Job Overview:
Shelter, a leading organization dedicated to providing housing and emergency support, is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team as interns for the 2024 intake. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for those interested in making a difference in the lives of vulnerable communities, while gaining hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with day-to-day shelter operations, including intake procedures, housing coordination, and client support.
- Provide direct support to individuals and families in need, including assisting with resource navigation and accessing essential services.
- Participate in outreach programs to increase awareness of available services.
- Support case managers in creating and updating client records and progress reports.
- Help plan and coordinate shelter programs, workshops, and events.
- Conduct research and data collection related to housing, homelessness, and poverty-related issues.
- Collaborate with other team members and volunteers to maintain a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for clients.
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute to discussions regarding shelter improvements and policy updates.

Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a relevant academic program (social work, psychology, sociology, public health, etc.) or recent graduate.

- Willingness to take on varied tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Availability for a minimum of 10-15 hours per week during the internship period.
- A valid driver’s license (preferred but not required, depending on location).
Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and confidentiality.
- Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with online research tools.
Experience:
- Previous volunteer or work experience in a social services or nonprofit setting is preferred.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, or housing insecurity is a plus, but not required.
