Job Description:
Powys County Council is excited to offer a range of internship and apprenticeship opportunities for 2024, aimed at developing future professionals interested in public service and local government. Interns and apprentices will gain practical experience in areas such as administration, engineering, social services, IT, finance, and human resources. Working closely with council departments, you will contribute to projects that support the community, develop your skills, and gain insights into how local government operates.
This program is designed to give participants real-world experience, helping them grow professionally while learning the intricacies of delivering public services that improve the lives of Powys residents.
Responsibilities:
- Assist council departments in their daily operations, including research, data collection, and administrative support.
- Contribute to key projects, such as infrastructure planning, social care services, or IT system improvements.
- Work with cross-functional teams to implement community initiatives, improve services, or optimize internal processes.
- Participate in meetings and provide input on projects or public service improvements.
- Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and documentation.
- Assist in community engagement and public consultations as part of ongoing council projects.
- Attend training sessions, workshops, and mentoring opportunities for professional development.
Qualifications:
- For internships: Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, ideally in public administration, business, engineering, social sciences, IT, or a related field.
- For apprenticeships: Minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English.
- Must have the right to live and work in the UK.
- A passion for public service and an interest in local government.
Experience:
- No previous work experience required, though relevant volunteer work, internships, or academic projects are advantageous.
- Familiarity with local government functions or public sector services is a plus.
- Experience in customer service, community engagement, or project-based work is beneficial.
Skills:
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
