Position Purpose:
The Norwich City Council Internship 2024 program offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain practical experience while working in local government. Interns will be involved in various council departments, contributing to projects that impact the city and its residents. This internship provides insight into public sector operations, local policy-making, and community services, while helping participants develop professional skills and kickstart their careers in public administration or related fields.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support council departments such as planning, environmental services, housing, finance, or community development in day-to-day operations and project work.
- Conduct research, collect data, and analyze information to support council decision-making and policy development.
- Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and documents for internal use or public distribution.
- Work closely with teams to facilitate community projects, events, and outreach programs.
- Engage with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to address concerns, gather feedback, and improve service delivery.
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and training sessions to develop an understanding of local government functions and responsibilities.
- Carry out administrative duties such as maintaining records, coordinating meetings, and handling inquiries.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure the successful completion of assigned tasks and projects.
Education:
- A minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above).
- Current students or recent graduates with a degree or diploma in fields such as Public Administration, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Urban Planning, Business, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Experience:
- No prior work experience is required, but any previous internship, voluntary work, or relevant part-time employment in public administration, policy research, or community service is an advantage.
Skills:
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly and interact with diverse groups of people.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with an eye for detail in research and data analysis.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Teamwork and collaboration, with the willingness to work across various departments and adapt to different work environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or other relevant software.
- Interest in local government, public policy, and community development.
