Position Purpose:
The North Tyneside Council Internship Employment 2024 program offers students and recent graduates the chance to gain hands-on experience in local government. Interns will contribute to meaningful projects across various departments, such as environmental services, urban planning, community development, and public policy. This internship is designed to provide practical work experience, helping participants develop their professional skills while gaining insight into how local government operates and serves the community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the delivery of key council services, including community engagement, policy development, urban planning, environmental management, or social care.
- Conduct research and analysis to support the development and implementation of council projects and initiatives.
- Collaborate with team members to facilitate public events, workshops, and outreach programs to engage residents and gather community feedback.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and policy documents for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide administrative support, including scheduling meetings, maintaining records, and handling public inquiries.
- Work closely with department supervisors to ensure projects are completed on time and in line with council policies and goals.
- Participate in training, workshops, and meetings to gain insights into the inner workings of local government.
- Engage with the public, businesses, and community groups to support the council’s mission of improving the quality of life for residents.
Education:
- A minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above).
- Current students or recent graduates with a degree in Public Administration, Business, Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
Experience:
- No prior work experience is necessary, but any internship, voluntary work, or relevant part-time experience in public administration, community services, or policy development is an advantage.
Skills:
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly and engage with diverse groups.
- Analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret data and provide insights for decision-making.
- Organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or other relevant software.
- A strong interest in public service, local government operations, and community development.
