Position Purpose:
The North Somerset Council Internship 2024 program provides an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain practical experience within local government. Interns will work across various departments, contributing to initiatives that enhance community services, improve infrastructure, and support public policy. This program is designed to help participants develop essential skills while gaining valuable insights into the operations of local government.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the delivery of key council services, such as community development, environmental management, urban planning, or social services.
- Conduct research and data analysis to inform decision-making and support the development of council policies and programs.
- Collaborate with teams to plan and implement community engagement initiatives, workshops, and public consultations.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and other documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide administrative support, including managing schedules, maintaining records, and responding to public inquiries.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions to enhance understanding of local government operations and best practices.
- Engage with residents and community groups to gather feedback and address concerns related to council services.
- Work with supervisors to achieve specific project goals and contribute to ongoing initiatives.
Education:
- A minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above).
- Current students or recent graduates in relevant fields such as Public Administration, Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or Business are encouraged to apply.
Experience:
- Previous experience is not required, but any internships, volunteer work, or part-time roles in public service, community engagement, or related areas will be considered advantageous.
Skills:
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
- Analytical skills with a focus on data interpretation and problem-solving.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or other relevant software.
- A genuine interest in local government, community service, and public policy.
