Position Purpose:
The Norfolk County Council Internship Program 2024 is designed to provide students and recent graduates with hands-on experience in local government. Interns will work across various departments, gaining practical skills while contributing to initiatives that enhance community services, public policy, and environmental sustainability. This program aims to foster the next generation of public service leaders by offering valuable insights into the workings of local governance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning and implementation of council services, including community development, environmental management, and public health initiatives.
- Conduct research and data analysis to support policy formulation, program development, and service delivery.
- Collaborate with teams to organize public events, workshops, and consultations to engage with residents and stakeholders.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and other documentation for internal and external communication.
- Provide administrative support, including maintaining records, managing schedules, and responding to public inquiries.
- Attend meetings and training sessions to gain knowledge of local government processes and best practices.
- Engage with community groups and residents to gather feedback and promote council initiatives.
- Work under the guidance of mentors and supervisors to complete specific projects and achieve internship objectives.
Education:
- A minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above).
- Current students or recent graduates pursuing a degree in Public Administration, Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Experience:
- No prior work experience is required, but any internships, volunteer roles, or part-time positions in public service, community engagement, or related fields will be considered beneficial.
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical and research skills, with an ability to interpret data and contribute to evidence-based decision-making.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with relevant software tools.
- A genuine interest in local government, public service, and community engagement.
