Network Rail is offering a series of Undergraduate Placement opportunities for 2024 as part of its apprenticeship program. These placements provide a unique opportunity for university students to gain valuable work experience in the railway industry while contributing to real-world projects. Our program is designed to offer practical, hands-on learning that supports students in their academic studies while preparing them for future careers in engineering, project management, IT, and other fields within Network Rail.
Responsibilities:
- Project Participation: Assist in delivering key infrastructure projects aimed at maintaining and improving the UK rail network.
- Collaboration: Work closely with experienced engineers, project managers, and other professionals across multiple departments.
- Problem-Solving: Contribute to the identification and resolution of technical and operational issues.
- Data Analysis: Use software tools to analyze project data and make informed recommendations.
- Reporting: Prepare regular reports, presentations, and updates for supervisors on the progress of assigned projects.
- Compliance: Ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with safety regulations and industry standards.

Requirements:
- Education: Be currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate degree program (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Business, etc.), with the intention of completing a placement year.
- Year of Study: Candidates must be in their second or penultimate year of university studies.
- Academic Performance: Demonstrate strong academic performance with at least a 2:1 or equivalent predicted grade.
- Interest in Rail Sector: Show a genuine interest in the rail industry and its future development.
- Right to Work: Must have the right to work in the UK for the duration of the internship.
Skills:
- Technical Knowledge: A good understanding of your field of study, whether it’s engineering, IT, project management, or related areas.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve technical or operational challenges.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Experience:
- Prior Work Experience: While no specific work experience is required, any relevant prior experience (e.g., part-time jobs, summer internships, or university projects) will be advantageous.
- Extracurricular Activities: Involvement in extracurricular activities or student societies that demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and initiative is also beneficial.
