The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) Internship, part of GCHQ, is offering exciting internship opportunities for students in 2024. Responsibilities:

  • Cyber Security Projects: Assist in the development and implementation of cyber security solutions to address real-world challenges facing government, businesses, and individuals.
  • Threat Intelligence: Participate in monitoring and analyzing cyber threats, contributing to the identification and mitigation of risks.
  • Research: Conduct research on emerging cyber security trends, technologies, and methodologies to inform NCSC’s strategy and response plans.
  • Incident Response: Support the team in handling cyber incidents, assisting in identifying vulnerabilities and ensuring systems are protected from future threats.
  • Security Assessments: Help with the assessment of IT systems and networks for vulnerabilities, making recommendations for improvements.
  • Collaborative Problem-Solving: Work with cross-functional teams to solve complex technical challenges and improve overall cyber resilience.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports and presentations summarizing research, findings, and project outcomes to senior leadership and team members.

Requirements:

  • Education: Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program in fields such as Cyber Security, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Year of Study: Must be in your second, penultimate, or final year of study.
  • Academic Performance: A strong academic record, with a minimum 2:1 predicted grade (or equivalent).
  • Interest in Cyber Security: Demonstrated interest in cyber security, information technology, or digital defence.
  • Right to Work: Applicants must have the right to work in the UK, and security clearance may be required for some roles.

Skills:

  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of cyber security principles, computer networks, cryptography, or programming (languages like Python, C++, Java, etc.).
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in identifying and addressing technical vulnerabilities or threats.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work well in a team and collaborate effectively with colleagues from various departments.

Experience:

  • Previous Work Experience: While previous work experience in cyber security is not mandatory, any internships, personal projects, or part-time roles involving cyber security, programming, or IT will be highly advantageous.
  • Project Work: Experience working on academic or personal projects related to cyber security, cryptography, or ethical hacking will strengthen your application.
