Job Description
The National Archives Internship is seeking motivated and passionate college students for its 2024 Internship Program. This internship offers students the opportunity to engage with historical documents, learn about archival practices, and contribute to the preservation of our nation’s history. Interns will work under the supervision of experienced archivists and staff, gaining valuable hands-on experience in a professional environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the organization, preservation, and digitization of archival materials.
- Conduct research and provide support for special projects and exhibitions.
- Help with cataloging and data entry to maintain accurate records of collections.
- Participate in public outreach efforts, including educational programs and workshops.
- Shadow professionals in various departments to gain insight into archival management and curation.
- Attend training sessions and contribute to team meetings.

Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program, preferably in History, Library Science, Archival Studies, or a related field.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Availability for a minimum of 10-15 hours per week during the internship period.
Skills
- Strong organizational and research skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Basic understanding of archival practices and preservation techniques is a plus.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Experience
- Previous volunteer or internship experience in libraries, museums, or similar environments is desirable but not required.
- Familiarity with historical research methods and tools is a plus.
