Job Description:

Middlesbrough College is excited to offer supported internships for students in 2024. These internships provide an excellent opportunity for students with learning difficulties and disabilities to gain valuable work experience while receiving support to transition into employment. Interns will be placed in various departments based on their skills, interests, and career goals, working closely with staff and job coaches to develop essential job skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily tasks and projects within the assigned department.
  • Follow instructions and complete duties as directed by supervisors or job coaches.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve departmental goals.
  • Develop and enhance workplace skills, including communication, problem-solving, and time management.
  • Attend workshops and training sessions to build employability and personal development.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate a willingness to learn.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations in the workplace.
  • Report progress to supervisors and engage in feedback sessions.

Requirements:

  • Must be a current student or recent graduate of Middlesbrough College.
  • Be aged 16-24 with a learning difficulty or disability (SEND).
  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • Have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
  • Be committed to working toward employment goals.
  • Willingness to engage with job coaches, mentors, and departmental staff.

Skills:

  • Strong desire to learn new tasks and gain work experience.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work in a team.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Positive attitude and motivation to succeed.
  • Willingness to receive constructive feedback and apply it.
  • Basic organizational skills.

Experience:

  • No prior work experience is necessary, but any voluntary or part-time work experience is advantageous.
  • Some experience of working in a team or group setting (e.g., at school, volunteering) is preferred.
