Job Description
Coventry City Council Apprenticeships is seeking enthusiastic and talented individuals for its 2024/2025 Internship Program. This paid internship offers students and recent graduates an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience in local government, working on impactful projects that directly benefit Coventry’s diverse communities. Interns will work closely with professionals across various departments, such as Community Services, Environmental Health, Human Resources, Digital Transformation, Finance, and Urban Planning. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop practical skills, gain insight into public sector operations, and contribute meaningfully to local governance.
Responsibilities
As an intern with Coventry City Council, you will have the chance to:
- Contribute to projects in your assigned department, assisting with research, data collection, and reporting.
- Support the implementation of local government policies, strategies, and community programs.
- Conduct analysis of public service initiatives, providing feedback and recommendations.
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and training sessions for personal and professional development.
- Assist in drafting communications, preparing presentations, and managing documents.
- Work collaboratively with other interns and council staff to meet department goals.
- Engage with the community, gaining first-hand insights into public needs and priorities.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Administration, Environmental Studies, Business, Communications, Social Sciences, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Must be eligible to work in the UK and available for the full duration of the internship program.
Experience
- Previous internship, volunteer, or project experience in the public sector, community services, or related fields is beneficial but not required.
- Demonstrated interest in public service, governance, and community engagement.
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to conduct research and analyze data to support decision-making.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Adaptability and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- Team-oriented approach with the ability to work independently as needed.
