Job Description
The Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) is inviting applications for its 2024/2025 Internship Graduate Vacancies. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or students in their final year who are interested in criminal justice and wish to gain hands-on experience in the field. As an intern at the CCRC, you will work on real cases, assisting in the review of possible miscarriages of justice, helping to ensure that justice is served in some of the most complex and serious criminal cases in the UK.
This role offers invaluable insight into the workings of the criminal justice system and is ideal for those pursuing a career in law, criminology, or public service.
Responsibilities
- Assist case review teams in gathering, organizing, and analyzing case materials.
- Conduct legal research to support case investigations and the preparation of reports.
- Help review applications from individuals claiming wrongful conviction or unfair sentencing.
- Prepare summaries, case notes, and recommendations for caseworkers and commissioners.
- Work closely with legal and investigative teams to ensure accuracy and thoroughness in case reviews.
- Attend team meetings and case discussions to contribute to decision-making processes.
- Provide administrative support, including managing case files and correspondence.
Qualifications
- Recent graduate (2023 or 2024) or current final-year student in law, criminology, criminal justice, social sciences, or a related field.
- A strong interest in criminal justice, human rights, or public law.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
Experience
- Prior experience in legal research, casework, or public service is desirable but not essential.
- Volunteering, internships, or part-time roles in criminal justice, legal aid, or related fields will be beneficial.
- Experience in writing reports, briefs, or academic papers related to criminal law or justice will be considered an asset.
