Job Description:
Brent Council is offering exciting internship programmes for 2024/2025, providing students and recent graduates with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in local government. Interns will work in a variety of departments, including community development, public services, housing, human resources, IT, and more. This internship is designed to develop your professional skills, expose you to public sector work, and offer you the chance to make a difference in the Brent community.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with day-to-day operations within your assigned department.
- Support project planning, research, and delivery across various council services.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external use.
- Attend and participate in meetings, workshops, and community events.
- Provide administrative support, including data entry, filing, and record management.
- Collaborate with council staff on initiatives aimed at improving services for residents.
- Engage with the local community, addressing concerns and delivering solutions where appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Current student or recent graduate in a relevant field (public administration, political science, social sciences, business, IT, etc.).
- Interest in local government, public policy, or community development.
- Eligible to work in the UK (for non-UK nationals, proof of right to work in the UK without sponsorship is required).
Experience:
- Previous experience in public service, government, or community work is an advantage but not required.
- Experience in administrative roles, project coordination, or research is beneficial.
Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with colleagues and community members.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.
- Willingness to learn about local government processes and contribute meaningfully.
