Position Purpose:
The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) Internship 2024 program offers graduates and students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the UK’s independent regulator of railways and highways. The internship aims to provide exposure to key aspects of regulation, safety standards, policy-making, and infrastructure management. Interns will have the chance to develop their skills, gain insights into the transport sector, and contribute to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient railways and roads.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in data collection, analysis, and reporting on rail or road performance, safety measures, and regulatory compliance.
- Support the policy teams by conducting research on relevant transport regulations, infrastructure projects, and market conditions.
- Contribute to the drafting of reports, briefing documents, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address emerging regulatory challenges in the transport sector.
- Participate in meetings with external stakeholders, including industry professionals, government agencies, and public interest groups.
- Assist with monitoring and evaluating industry compliance with ORR’s regulations.
- Perform general administrative duties such as organizing meetings, coordinating events, and managing project documentation.
Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree or working towards a degree in relevant fields such as Economics, Engineering, Law, Public Policy, Transport Management, or Environmental Science.
Experience:
- Recent graduates or students in their final year of study are encouraged to apply.
- Previous internships, placements, or voluntary roles in related industries such as transport, infrastructure, public policy, or economics are desirable but not required.
Skills:
- Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a clear and concise writing style.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with a collaborative mindset.
- Problem-solving abilities, demonstrating creativity and critical thinking in addressing regulatory issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Interest in transport infrastructure, safety regulation, or policy-making.
